 Presentation
"Prostatitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain"
Dr. Anthony Schaeffer (biography)
English - 2005-06-27 - 41 minutes

Summary :
Prostatitis symptoms are classified into 4 categories described herein this presentation. These include acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome, and asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis.

More Epidemiological studies are required to better establish the prevalence and pathogenesis of these categories. Thus far, studies have shown acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis to be less prevalent than chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain which arises in approximately 5-15% of men. Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis occurs frequently as a result of surgery.

On behalf of the committee, Dr. Schaeffer concludes by providing multiple, in depth recommendations for the evaluation and treatment for these categories.
