"New Therapeutic Targets and Treatments for Metastatic Prostate Cancer" Dr. William Nelson (biography) English - 2005-06-27 - 54 minutes
Summary : Scher and colleagues have attempted to institute the notion of disease states in patients with prostate cancer. These are recurrent prostate cancer after local therapy (no metastasis), metastatic prostate cancer not yet treated, androgen independent prostate cancer (no metastasis), and androgen independent metastatic prostate cancer. Several therapeutic treatments demonstrate to be more suitable for some states while less suitable for others. This patient stratification may aid physicians in choosing a therapy.
Dr. Nelson reviews several treatment approaches such as androgen blockade/deprivation, tubulin targeting, radioisotopes for the treatment of bony metastasis, immunotherapy, and gene therapy.
Furthermore, he introduces novel targeted therapies currently being investigated. These include DNA methylation, and molecular therapy.
Learning objectives : After viewing this presentation, participants will be able to discuss:
- Different disease states;
- Various therapeutic treatments and targets;
- Points to consider for these therapeutic treatments and targets.
